Minor Football League Division 1 Final

Clane 0-17 Naas 2-11
Clane won 4-2 on Penalties

A very hot day for may , over 64 bottles of water were used to keep the lads hydrated  during a epic encounter which saw the teams level at full-time.

There was still no separating the teams in extra-time before Clane eventually won out on penalties.

Clane started slowly and Naas caused havoc taking their scores well.

The Clane players were getting caught out and overturned when in possession which didnt help in a very nervy start.

Clane lost centre back Shane Henry to injury 15 mins in and had to reshuffle  and bring on a sub.

Clane missed a few chances but were creating them partly due to the outstanding fielding of Daniel Colbett in midfield.

Clane were unlucky to concede another goal , that put them down 2-07 to 3 points at half time, in fact Naas could of had another goal but for a great block by the steady full back Sam Farrell.

After a reshuffle at half time and a honest look at what could be improved in 2nd half , these players knew and had the belief they were going out to give it everything in 2nd half.

Playing down towrds the scoreboard end in the 2nd half , the spirit of these mighty men shone through with attack after attack.

Scores by the impressive Neil Vizzard, Killian O'Sullivan and captain Adam Fitzpatrick kept us in the game as Naas found it hard to get out of defence.

The likes of Riann O'Neill and Andrew McCormack ran themselves into the ground as well as chipping in with points while Evan Dunne also had a fine game with his short and long kickouts working well.

Evan's full back line were solid in the  2nd half as they broke up many Naas attacks.

TJ Dillon, Sam Farrell, Sean McGinn, Diarmuid Finn and James O'Donoghue all impressed as did Adam Milea in midfield.

Clane gradually started to grab a hold of this game with subs Jack Grealis and Eddie O'Loughlin both scoring off the bench.

Clane managed to score ten unanswered points in the second half as well as keeping Naas scoreless and it's a credit to the panel to make such a good comeback.

All credit to the Fitness Coach Tony Nason they were flying fit and backed up by manager Phil Casey and mentors Brian Murphy, Eddie McCormack , Mike walsh and Paul Dunne Gazza, in the dying moments Clane drew level  after a great score by Eddie O'Loughlin.

In extra-time Naas scored the first two points but Clane didnt panic and got one point before half time and levelled in the second half of extra-time.

Clane had the chances to win but after hitting the post a few times, the final whistle soon went.

The game went to penalties with Darragh Mullahy, Eddie O'Loughlin and Daniel Colbert scoring before Evan Dunne made two great saves.

Killian O'Sullivan then scored the winning penalty as Clane were crowned Minor Division 1 League champions.

The supporters, coaches and players had their day in the sun as we finished the league unbeaten on a great day for the club.

Many thanks to our sponsors Sports Direct aswell.
