Clane Gaa members connected with All Ireland U21/U20 success called up to Tommy Carew yesterday evening with the Leinster & All Ireland cups.
He was delighted to receive the lads into the house & there was great interest as Tommy recalled the All Ireland u21 success of 1965.
Tommy only came into the side midway through the c'ship but was firmly part of the team when Kildare beat Cork in the final.
Surprisingly, there was no cup presented to captain Pat Dunney that day, the present Tim Clarke Cup firstly awarded to Roscommon in 1966 - a match in which defending champions Kildare were beaten by a point.
"We should've won that day" Tommy told us as he shook his head! In all Tommy collected three provincial U21 medals in '65,'66 &'67.
As Harry, Adam & Oisin talked of the celebrations after beating Sligo in this year's All Ireland Final, Tommy smiled and replied "At 8am the morning after winning the All Ireland I was on the bog in Coill Dubh, throwing turf up on a trailer!!"
Thanks to Tommy, Ruairí, Sinead, Eimear & Riley for welcoming the lads in for a lovely evening to bring together Clane's U21/U20 Leinster & All Ireland winners.
