On Wednesday evening last our Clane u12s played on the main pitch versus a big and strong Athy team. A downpour before the game made it very difficult with slippy conditions, but the it was this young Clane team that slipped into an early lead with 3 goals from Tami eko Davis (who was on fire again), Harry Reid and Robert Lynch to build up a 12 point lead by half time. They couldn't have done this without some superb defending from Neil Vizzard in the centre along with Charlie O'Neill, Dominic Burke, Conar Duggan, Samuel Farrell, Finn Doyle and Cormac Hopkins who was heroic until he had to depart with a nasty injury; as well as the last line of defence and goalie Evan Dunne who pulled off a few great saves. At midfield youngsters Robert Lynch and Sean McGinn along with Adam Corbett ran the show. Barry Fitzpatrick and Captain Alex Stynes worked hard inside with Alex Duffy and Daragh Mcaeny until e picked up an injury. Phoenix Easy, Loughlin Carew, Ryan Murphy and Adian Glynn also worked their socks off.

In the 2nd half Athy who were never going to lie down, came out determined to reduce the deficit. Clane knew they were in for a real battle as Athy flew over some fine points and the lead was down to 3. The Clane sideline reacted and made a few switches and changes to regain control. Phoenix Easy with a lightning first touch stepped up to score a rocket of a goal and the momentum was back with Clane that allowed them to see the game out. In the end Clane won by 6, in a thriller of a match played by two fine teams.

Ultimately it was down to pure effort and determination to eek out the win in the face of an onslaught from Athy in that 2nd half.

Well done to the team and management. 🏳🏳🏐🏐🏐
