Clane U12 footballers qualified for the semi final of the U12 Division 1 of the North Kildare league with a comprehensive victory over a gallant Balyna side in a game played on a well presented pitch in Johnstownbridge on Wednesday 12th May.Clane used the wide pitch to great effect in the first half and led at halftime on a score line of 4-8 to 1-5, with the scores coming from Sean Callan, Brian Healy, Ciaran Kelly and Brian McLoughlin,while Balyna responded with a goal and a point from Sam Doran and three points from Jack Robinson who had Clane defenders on the back foot for most of the first half.
Balyna made most of the early running in the second half,Sam Doran added three quick points to narrow the deficit, Clane then upper their performance and goals from substitute Shane McCormack,Tadhg Montgomery and Sean Callan finish the game as a contest.
The foundation for this victory was a rock solid defense led by Colm O Sullivan,Caolan Smith and Adam Donovan,who were tigerish in their tackles and determined to get to every ball before their opponents.Goalie Dillon Ryan pull off a couple of spectacular saves,while midfielders Brian Corbett who score one great point after a solo run and Niall Wyer competed well against Man of the Match Balyna’s Sam Doran.Up front forwards McLoughlin,Kelly, Healy and Callan were impressive and linked up well for numerous scores. Clane now play Kilcock in the Semi Final.
For Balyna,Tom McDonnell ,Sam Doran and Jack Robinson were most prominent.
