Feile 2009

Team AFeile Chill Dara is taking place on the 3rd, 4th & 5th of July at all GAA clubs around the county. There are 160 teams taking part with teams coming from Europe & the US to compete in what is the biggest underage tournament in Europe this year. Clane GAA would like to extend a warm welcome to Claregalway, Hertfordshire & Aodh Ruadh players, mentors, club officals & supporters to Clane for the weekend.

Clane have 3 teams competing in this year’s competition and they are the Boys under 14’s, the Boys under 13’s and the girl’s under14 teams. Each team will compete in a group of 4 with the top team qualifying for a semi-final.

All teams competing in the Feile will also participate in a parade on the Friday evening in Newbridge. All the 160 teams will meet in the county grounds by 6.15pm where the president Mary McAleese & GAA presidents and dignatories will meet each team before marching down the town with bands leading the way.

Team AThe Boys under 14 team will be competing in Division 1 and their visiting team is Claregalway from County Galway. Their 1st game will be against Claregalway at 2.45pm on Friday 3rd, with the 2nd & 3rd games on Saturday morning commencing at 9.30am on Saturday 4th. The other two teams competing in the group are Kilcock from Kildare & Slaughtneil from Derry. All the group games for these teams will be played in Clane.

The Boys under 13 team will be competing in Division 5 and their visiting team is Hertfordshire from England. Their 1st game will be against Hertfordshire at 2.45pm on Friday 3rd in Clane, with the 2nd & 3rd games on Saturday morning commencing at 9.30am in Ballymore Eustace on Saturday 4th. The other two teams competing in this group are Ballymore Eustace from Kildare & Clonmel Commercials from Tipperary. The semi-finals for Division 5 will be played in Clane commencing at 4.30pm on Saturday evening.

Team BThe Girls under 14 team will be competing in Division 2 of the ladies section and their visiting team is Aodh Raudh from Tyrone. Their 1st game will be against the Tyrone club at 2.45pm on Friday 3rd in Clane, with the 2nd & 3rd games on Saturday morning commencing at 9.30am in Eadestown on Saturday 4th. The other two teams competing in this group are Eadestown from Kildare & Moate from Westmeath. The semi-finals for the girls Division 2 will be played in Athy later that evening.

The finals will take place on the Sunday in the county grounds in Newbridge with the first final starting at 9.30am.

As the weekend is about participation, enjoyment, meeting & making new friends, the club are also having music in the GAA club on both the Friday & Saturday nights with a disco being organised on the Saturday night for the players that will be staying in Clane for the weekend.

Clane GAA hopes that the weekend will be one that will never be forgotten with all teams going home with new friendships being made.
