Adult Camogie – Finally Underway !!

It was with palatable relief that our, KOMD sponsored, Juniors and Seniors kicked off the defense of their League titles for 2018.

Our Juniors headed to play Nurney on Sunday 8th at the rearranged venue of Ros Glas GAA Club in Monasterevin. There will be better days to play in your Club colours of All White for the first time but the result was all that mattered and the girls stepped up to the challenge by running out 7-13 to 0-1 winners over a gallant Nurney side.

The Seniors hit the road on Monday 9th to play St. Laurence’s at 1930. The girls are now under the new management of P.J. Donaghue and again the girls took control early and played impressively to secure the two points with a 5-14 to 0-1 victory.

It was great to see the player numbers out in force and playing with enthusiasm so well done girls and management.

On Sunday 15th the Clane Juniors will be home to Kilcock, the 2017 Junior Championship winners. The throw in will be at 1900 in Clane.

On Monday 16th the Clane Juniors will be home to Celbridge and the throw in for this game will also be at 1900 in Clane.

There will be a significant landmark over these two games as our Camogie girls will be playing in their Club colours of “All White” for the first time at home in Clane. Please get out and support both teams over these two games and roar them on.

Have you read our One Club Juvenile Policy Guidelines Document?

At the recent Club AGM the Club launched our One Club Juvenile Policy Guidelines document.  The document was developed over a number of months by representatives from the four codes within the Club, Gaelic football and hurling, camogie and ladies football.  The rationale behind the creation of the document was to create a set of guidelines for all our juvenile teams, that was informed by best practice in relation to getting as many children, as possible, to play our sports.  Clane GAA is a growing Club and this is reflected in our growing membership.  Mentors and parents often ask what is our philosophy in relation to underage teams and this document is a first step in articulating a set of guidelines that we believe all mentors should have to help them carry out their role.  The committee that developed the guidelines would welcome feedback, so that over time, they become embedded in the Club and in the practices of all mentors and coaches.

So if you haven’t already done so, visit the One Club section of the Clane GAA website, and check out the document and the various survey results that are housed there.  As the clocks change it is important that as many Club members as possible read the documents and share their views to their respective chairpersons, so that we ensure we have as many young people as possible playing all four codes in the Club.  As stated in the document introduction, “sport, health & fitness is a journey and not a race…” and now we need to start implementing a set of good practices to make this a reality for all our players.  Let the games begin.
