The Roar for Ruairi campaign, having achieved its fundraising goal are now closing the appeal to further donations. Rathcoffey, Clane and Ballycastle GAA clubs, as partners of the campaign, wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to every single person and organisation who contributed to the success of the fundraising appeal for Ruairi McDonnell. Since the campaign began just over a year ago, our members have rallied together and took part in our events, from virtual quizzes to running challenges.  It is safe to say that when our friends were in need, Clane GAA, our parish and the rest of our GAA community delivered. Clane GAA have been proud to support Ruairi and his family throughout this very difficult time and will continue to support the McDonnell’s in any way possible in the future.

"The Roar for Ruairi campaign, having achieved its fundraising goal are now closing the appeal to further donations. Rathcoffey, Clane and Ballycastle GAA clubs, as sponsors of the campaign, wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to every single person and organisation who contributed to the success of the fundraising appeal for Ruairi McDonnell.

Since commencing our appeal a year ago it has been truly amazing to see the communities of north Kildare, north Mayo and people from all over Ireland and beyond come together in support of this special appeal. We will always remember the support from local GAA clubs, local entertainers and other clubs, organisations and individuals who responded in an incredible way by organising on-line concerts, quizzes, competitions, sporting challenges and other novel ways to raise funds.

Ruth and Martin would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated and by doing so, showed love and support for Ruairi.  The funds raised have had a hugely positive impact on their family life. Your donation has made it possible to make the significant alterations needed in order to make their home suitable and comfortable for Ruairi as well as providing for his ongoing and future care needs. The McDonnell family are overwhelmed by the generosity of all who contributed to the appeal particularly in light of how difficult it has been for everyone due to Covid.

The past 16 months have been a very difficult and challenging time for the family, especially for Ruairi, now aged 7, who continues to bravely battle every day with a disease that is relentless in nature. He fully depends on his Mam and Dad for his everyday needs but continues to inspire all those who love and care for him as he deals with his daily challenges. He is at his happiest when he sits on their knee and can rest his head. Ruairi and his two brothers are still the best of friends and together with their Mam and Dad they try to find joy every day and to make the most of their time together as a family."
